Eyelid Surgery

What is meant by Eyelid Surgery ?

Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty is usually  done for the cure of undereye circles, wrinkles, under eye bags. Due to overactivity of eye muscles, irregular sleeping habits, stress, our eyelids develop these wrinkles , which give up your age. These can be removed with the help of simple procedures. These are typically done under local anesthesia, patient being discharged immediately after surgery. You may have some swelling or bruising at the site of surgery, for a day or two, which can be easily alleviated by ice fomentation and some medicines.

Blepharoplasty is done in late 30s and the results are permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. IS THERE AN IDEAL AGE FOR A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
    • Ans: There is no ideal age for undergoing plastic surgery on the eyelids. The appropriate time will be defined by the appearance of the problem, which is when we recommend resolving same. As we have mentioned in other sections, at the Sanza Clinic we believe (where possible) in small timely corrections rather than radical changes, which translate into more natural results and a more youthful appearance with simpler and more effective procedures.
  2. DO VISIBLE SCARS REMAIN AFTER A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
    • Ans: No. Fortunately, the characteristics of the thin skin on the eyelids and the location of the incisions ensure the scars are well hidden and very discreet. Once the stitches have been removed (usually after 5 to 7 days) the scars can be disguised with makeup and after 2 to 3 months are practically imperceptible.
  3.  WHAT ANAESTHETIC IS USED FOR PERFORMING A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
    • Ans: Normally, when the blepharoplasty involves just a resection of surplus skin, it is performed with local anaesthetic; occasionally if under-eye bags have to be removed it may be performed with a mild sedation.
  4.  DO THE EYES SWELL OR BRUISE A LOT AFTER A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
    • Ans: We perform minimally invasive techniques, and therefore recovery is quicker. In general terms, there may be a little swelling in the first 3 or 4 days which subsequently disappears. Bruising varies a lot from one person to another, with our technique it is rare for it to appear at all but if it does, a treatment is applied to eliminate it and it tends to last between 4 to 7 days.
  5.   WHY ARE THERE TWO DIFFERENT METHODS FOR PERFORMING A LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY?
    • Ans: The transconjunctival method is only effective if the objective of the intervention is to eliminate fat deposits which have formed unattractive bags. If in addition there is surplus skin to be removed, this method is not advisable, as it is not possible to tighten the skin using the transconjunctival method. In this case, we resort to an incision under the eyelashes and after excising the surplus skin it is tightened at this point.
