Rhinoplasty ( Nose Job )

What is Rhinoplasty ( Nose Job ) ?

Nose is considered as the prime focus of our face. It is said that our nose gives an indication of our personality. A well shaped, sharp , projecting nose is what anyone desires for. This can be achieved by Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery which corrects any deformities of nose thereby giving you the nose which you aspire.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1.  WHEN WILL I SEE A DEFINITIVE RESULT FROM A RHINOPLASTY?
    • Ans: There are many factors that bear an influence, the type of surgery, the characteristics of the patient him or herself, prior interventions, etc. Generally between 15 to 21 days you can appreciate approximate results, but usually it is from the third month onwards that the results more or less definitive. However, the nose may undergo small changes for months, even for a year.
  2. AT WHAT AGE CAN I UNDERGO A RHINOPLASTY?
    • Ans:It is not advisable to operate on any patient until they have completed their normal growth process. In girls this tends to be at 14 or 15 years of age, in boys it tends to be 18 years of age, so in general terms we do not advise undergoing this type of operation until after adolescence.
  3. CAN A DEVIATED NOSE AND BREATHING DIFFICULTIES BE CORRECTED IN THE SAME SURGERY?
    • Ans:Yes, it is common for patients who have bad breathe some degree of septal deviation which gives the appearance of crooked nose or lateralized while affects correct airflow within the nose. To correct this deviation or obstruction mejoraos appearance and restore respiratory function.
  4.  WHAT TYPE OF ANAESTHETIC IS USED IN A RHINOPLASTY?
    • Ans:It depends on the type of repair we need to perform, if we are just correcting the tip of the nose it can be done with local anaesthetic, in cases where we have to correct the septum or perform and osteotomy it is essential to perform them under general anaesthetic
  5. MUST I BE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER A RHINOPLASTY?
    • Ans:The intervention itself does not require admission, in all cases it is an outpatient procedure. In cases where it is performed under general anaesthetic it may be necessary to spend a 24 hour hospital stay, more due to the residual effects of the anaesthetic than the Rhinoplasty as a procedure.
  6. MUST I WEAR NASAL PLUGS?
    • Ans:Nasal plugs are not always necessary, only when we perform a modification of the nasal septum. Where these are required, they are removed the day after surgery.
  7. MUST I WEAR A PLASTER CAST OR SPLINT AFTER A RHINOPLASTY?
    • Ans:Not all nose procedures require the use of a plaster cast or splint, only in cases of performing an osteotomy will they be needed for an average of one week, in other cases support splints may or may not be used for around 5 days, depending on the swelling.
  8. WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK?
    • Ans:It depends on the surgery and the type of activity undertaken, in cases which don’t involve any great physical exercise patients can return to work after 3 days, but it must be borne in mind that by this time there may still be some swelling and bruising in the nose and eyelid area. Normally all signs of the intervention have disappeared after 7-10 days and after one month patients can resume intense physical exercise.
